Air Asia have been advertising $99 fares direct to Bali here and my sister told me I should book because I'll get depressed if I get home from Japan with nothing else booked. I think she was being a bit of a smart arse but I do like travel planning.
I have pretty much locked in my Japan trip for Nov-Dec this year.
We fly into Kansai with Air Asia. I wanted to fly Jetstar because they do direct flights from Melbourne but they were too expensive for the dates we wanted to fly so we have almost 24 hours flying time with a big stopover in KL.
Every time I have had a stopover in KL before, it's been in the shitty, unair-conditioned, fly blown tin shed they called the Low Cost Carrier Terminal. That's hell for a long stopover.
This time, they've opened a new terminal for low cost flights and it seems much more upmarket. It includes a capsule hotel and, since we have a 9 hour stopover, we are going to give it a try. It'll be my first capsule hotel experience so I'll be sure to blog the experience.
Four days in Osaka. Most of that will be taken up with the Arashi concerts. Hopefully. My friend, who won tickets in the ballot, went to pay for them but she had to put in her name exactly as it's written on the email she got BUT her surname has an apostrophe and the antiquated bank transfer method you use for payments doesn't allow for that. Why the hell they don't do it by fan club membership number is beyond me. Hopefully, it will all be sorted and we'll get our tickets.
So, we'll have Thursday to buy goods which may take anything from 10 minutes to 10 hours based on past experience.
Friday is the concert, followed by drinks at the Arashi fan bar. Then maybe drunken nampa and photo bombing around Dontonburi. I don't know why but get a few drinks in me when I'm in Japan and I photo bomb every photo taken around me. The salarymen love it.
Seriously, they do.
We should have tickets for the Sunday night concert as well. Amazingly, we have two friends from Melbourne who are Arashi fans and live in Osaka and they both got tickets in the ballot. What are the chances? Well, around 1 in 10 apparently.
Our other plans include the Harry Potter thing at Universal Studios. Sure, it'll be cheesy as fuck but I'm partial to a bit of cheesy tourist stuff and a bit of a Harry Potter fan. My sister is a huge HP fan.
Other than that, it'll be all the usual Osaka stuff - eating okonimiyaki, karaoke, more eating...
My sister is flying straight home from Osaka while I'm going to Tokyo for 10 days.
When I booked stuff, I thought I'd be dead broke so tried to be frugal -- well more frugal. But I've had a record breaking month of book sales. The whole thing has been mind-blowing. I never expected to make much money at all this month and it's been insane. Because the sales have mainly been on itunes and I've never sold there before, I have no idea when I'll get the cash but there is cash a-coming.
What that means is that I'd booked a week at a cheap Airbnb place then planned to couchsurf to save some bucks. But bucks don't need to be saved so I booked into the Claska in Nakameguro. I've never spent much time on that side of Tokyo before so it'll be a whole new area to explore.
Then, I got an email about the cheap Airbnb apartment I'd booked. She'd double-booked it (I actually think some wanted it long term - it was a bargain price even compared to the usual gaijin houses). So, instead of staying in Higashijujo, she offered me an apartment slap-bang in the middle of Shinjuku for the same price.
That should be entertaining. I'm just hoping it won't be too loud. I've always wanted to wander around Shinjuku taking early morning photos but never got out of bed early enough. This should be a good chance to do that.
My only other firm plans for Tokyo at the moment are to go to Mount Takao. I've never been before and, in December, you can see Fuji Diamond! That will be awesome.
I've been trying to think of some things to do in Tokyo that I haven't done before because I don't want to keep doing the same things over and over. Plus it'll be winter so I want to be indoors. But mostly I want to eat good sushi!
