I moved out of my Airbnb. Between the cold and the noise, I was pretty miserable there. I've moved into a serviced apartment. Well, to be honest, it's not so serviced but that's okay with me. I hate people coming in my space.
I'm much further out of town but it's a great area. Lots of great cafes and eateries within a few minutes walk. And the place is huge. I have a living area with a couch plus desk as well as a bedroom. If you know Chiang Mai, it's near the bus station, which you think would be a sketchy area but it's great. It's also dead simple to give directions to tuk tuk drivers!
And it's quiet. Well, about as quiet as it's going to get around here. When you have tile floors and not much in the way of soft furnishings, it's hard to have absolute quiet. Beats the hell out of drunken noisy people all night and having a scooter parking lot directly under your bed.
As well as feeling a lot more relaxed and well rested, I've been heaps more productive. All up, I'm about $150 out of pock
I had a heap of medical tests done today. That's one of the reasons for coming here, the cheap medical. I had to do a urine test though and am worried I actually got a disease from that bathroom. It was the worst bathroom I've seen in Thailand.
Other that that, I've been working lots and eating lots. There's a place that does a shabu shabu buffet for like $8. I ate many varieties of pork. I might go back again before I leave.
Being the end of the month, I have a good reason to celebrate. I had my best month ever for book sales. I hit a big landmark and doubled my dream goal. I think that's going to nosedive this month though.
On the spending side, I thought I'd spend a ton of money since I've been here but, when I added up my spending for the month, a heck of a lot of it was business expenses -- I pre-paid a bunch of promos, bought book covers, all that kind of thing. You have to spend money to make money.
While a predict a slow Feb and probably even March, when all this work and spending comes together, April onwards should hopefully be tops.
